1st Annual Duke Ellington Jazz Festival (September 28 - October 2, 2005)
An estimated 30,000 residents from the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area and tourists of all ages were treated to the premiere of an exciting new addition to the cultural spectrum in the nation's capital - the annual Duke Ellington Jazz Festival.
The critically acclaimed festival was received as a welcome addition to Washington’s annual cultural attractions. More than 40 performances and programs were given by artists including Chuck Brown, Dave Brubeck, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Jerry Gonzalez & The Fort Apache Band, The Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Wallace Roney, The Wayne Shorter Quartet and Sunny Sumter.
